No. 62 Women’s Tennis Suffers Loss to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 62 Penn State women's tennis team (11-13, 3-7 B1G) suffered a loss to Maryland (16-7, 5-5 B1G) Saturday afternoon.
 
DOUBLES
 
The Maryland women's tennis team struck first and took the doubles point. At No. 2, Sofiya Chekhlystova and Alexandra Nielsen dropped their match to No. 69 Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield, 6-1.
 
Depsite holding the lead for most of their match, Olivia Dorner and Karly Friedland fell to Minorka Miranda and Marta Perez Mur, 6-4.
 
Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva were up 5-4 versus Jojo Bach and Hannah McClogan before their match was left unfinished. 
 
SINGLES
 
The Terrapins continued their success into singles to clinch the match, but not before the Nittany Lions came withing striking distance.
 
Yvonne Zuffova fell to Minorka Miranda, 6-3, 6-4. Alexandra Nielsen dropped her match at No. 6 to Francesca Feodorov, 6-1, 7-5.
 
No. 70 Sofiya Chekhlystova and Karly Friedland closed the gap for the Blue and White with their singles wins to make the match 3-2. Chekhlystova defeated Marta Perez Mur, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0. Friedland upended Hannah McClogan, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
 
However, Maryland ended up clinching the match with Olivia Dorner's loss to Kallista Liu, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. 
 
Ioana Gheorghita was tied in the third set to Selma Cadar when their match was left unfinished, 5-7, 7-5, 2-2.
