RECIFE, BRAZIL – Penn State swimmer Victor Baganha competed in the 100m Butterfly on Tuesday, May 30 at the Brazil National Championships at the Santos Dumont Park and Sports Center in Recife, Brazil. In Tuesday evening's final, Baganha earned a personal-best 52.26 to place second. Earlier in the day, Baganha recorded a time of 52.51 in the prelims, to earn the No. 2 seed going into Tuesday's A final.
With the 52.26, Baganha not only topped his previous best of 52.30, he also qualified for the Pan-American Games in October and the World University Games this Summer.
His 52.26 time just missed the cut to qualify for the world championships.
"It's amazing having the experience that I'm having right now," said Baganha. "I'm so grateful for Minas and PSU for providing such amazing opportunities for me to be successful."
Baganha continues competing at the Brazilian Nationals on Thursday, June 1 with the 100m Freestyle. Baganha will swim the 50m Butterfly on Friday and the 50m Freestyle on Saturday.
