Pam Brown Promoted to Lady Lion Assistant Coaching Role

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's basketball head coach Carolyn Kieger announced the promotion of Pam Brown to become the program's fourth full-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2023-24 season on Wednesday afternoon.

"We are elated to announce Pam's promotion to become an assistant coach with our program," Kieger said. "Pam has consistently demonstrated a strong passion for helping our young women reach their full potential. She has coached at the highest level, and we are thrilled to have her in a role back on the court. Pam's journey with us is an inspiring example of loyalty and dedication. Her promotion is a direct reflection of her hard work, skills and incredible character. We are confident that she will excel as an assistant and help drive our program forward.

A key contributor to Penn State's internal operations over the past few seasons, Brown has served as the program's Director of Basketball Operations under Kieger since her first year in 2019-20. Her efforts in and around the practice facility have been instrumental in driving the Lady Lions to an increase in overall victories in every year of her tenure with the Blue & White. Brown's contributions to the student-athlete experience in Happy Valley have helped set the standard for the program's culture, both on the court and in the classroom.

"First off, I want to thank Coach Kieger for the opportunity to continue working alongside her in an elevated role with Penn State women's basketball," Brown expressed. "Her passion and leadership for this program is second to none, and I am beyond excited to be able to get on the court with our staff and student-athletes this season. I look forward to continuing to work with them as we prepare for an exciting year here in Happy Valley."

An experienced veteran of both operations management and high-level collegiate coaching, Brown arrived at Penn State alongside Kieger after a stint as the Director of Basketball Operations at Marquette University. While in Milwaukee, Brown managed the day-to-day operations of the program while helping oversee a Golden Eagle squad that made three consecutive NCAA Tournaments in addition to recording a trio of 20-win seasons.

Before joining Kieger's staff at Marquette, Brown had extensive experience as both a full-time assistant coach and graduate assistant coach. Brown served as a full-time assistant with the Stetson Hatters, working primarily with the post players. She mentored Amber Porter and helped her earn Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-ASUN accolades. As a member of the Hatters' staff, she helped Stetson post its fifth-straight 20-plus win season in 2014-15.

Before she arrived at Stetson, Brown served as a graduate assistant at the University of North Texas, where she pursued a master's degree in recreation and leisure studies. She also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Winthrop University and two additional seasons as coordinator of basketball operations at the University of Miami.

The Coppell, Texas, native enjoyed a four-year career with the Charlotte 49ers basketball team where she was a two-year starter and an All-Atlantic 10 performer. Averaging better than 10 points per game in all four seasons, Brown finished her career with 1,443 points, 627 rebounds, and 114 assists. Brown was named to the first-team All-Atlantic 10 squad as a senior following a season in which she averaged 12.9 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor. During her tenure at Charlotte, she helped guide the 49ers to two league titles and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003. A member of the Dean's List, Brown graduated from Charlotte in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics.
