Gambino Serving As Manager For USA Baseball Athlete Development Program

CARY, N.C. – Penn State baseball head coach Mike Gambino is coaching with USA Baseball from August 3-6 in at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. He is serving as a manager for the 13U/14U Athlete Development Program.
 
The Athlete Development Program will welcome 50 athletes and feature advanced on-field skills development with positional and team-fundamental drills. The participants will be split into two teams and compete head-to-head in a series of games. Gambino will coach Team Termarr Johnson, named after the 2022 first round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
 
Gambino returns to coaching with USA Baseball after erving as manager for Team Light Blue during the 16U/17U National Team Development Program in Summer 2022.
 
Gambino arrived at Penn State in early July after 13 years leading the Boston College baseball program. He ranks second in program history in wins (291) while guiding Boston College to a pair of NCAA Regional appearances in 2016 and 2023 and an NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2016.
 
Gambino has a long history of developing Major League Baseball talent with 35 draft picks in his 13 years at BC. He had three first round picks, six picks in the first five rounds and nine picks in the Top 10 rounds of the MLB Draft in his tenure. Four former Boston College players have appeared in MLB games this season: outfielder Jake Alu (Washington Nationals), outfielder Sal Frelick (Milwaukee Brewers), pitcher Michael King (New York Yankees) and pitcher Emmet Sheehan (Los Angeles Dodgers). Six of Gambino's former BC players have reached the major leagues. Frelick, a first round pick in 2021, made his debut with the Brewers on July 22.
 
He coached five All-American selections and five Freshman All-Americans at BC. Gambino guided 16 All-ACC selections, including 2021 ACC Player of the Year Frelick.
 
In his time at Boston College, Gambino put together five recruiting classes ranked among the nation's Top 60 by Perfect Game.
