UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 2023 Penn State cross country season is set to begin as the team's first regular season meet is scheduled for this Friday, Sept. 1, in Lock Haven, Pa.
The annual Dolan Duals at the West Branch Cross Country Course is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with the women's 4k competition followed by the men's 6k competition at 6:30 p.m. Results can be found following the meet on GoPSUSports.com.
Earlier this week, both of head coach John Gondak's cross country teams were ranked in the top six of the 2023 USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional preseason rankings. The women's team slotted in at No. 4 and men's team was picked sixth in the region.
On the women's side, senior Faith DeMars and redshirt senior Kileigh Kane return to the course for the Nittany Lions this season. DeMars and Kane led the Nittany Lions in the final two meets of the season, with both earning Mid-Atlantic Regional honors with top-25 finishes at the regional meet.
Additional top returners on the women's team's veteran roster include seniors Maddie Ullom and Sophia Toti, along with redshirt senior Makenna Krebs.
Junior Brendan Colwell leads the returning group for the Penn State men as the top returning finisher for the Nittany Lions at last year's Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
The young group on the men's side is bolstered this season by veteran graduate transfer Ramsey Little, who posted a lifetime-best 29:49.8 10K during his time at Marist. Penn State also added 2022 PIAA State Cross Country Champion Brian DiCola to its roster atop the list of standout freshmen.
