Karnes and Raubal Excel at World University Games

CHENGDU, China- Josh Karnes and Ian Raubal experienced successful outings at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China. Karnes placed sixth overall in the all-around finals for the United States and Raubal placed 12th for Switzerland.
 
"Great effort today for Penn State at the World University Games," said head coach Randy Jepson. "Josh was outstanding and placed sixth in the all-around against the best in the world. He tied the world champion on vault and had three stuck routines. Ian also had an excellent performance for Switzerland. The results from this weekend were a great indicator and we look very strong heading into the fall.
 
The U.S. National Team member, Karnes had a strong performance in the all-around finals with three stick bonuses on top of two of his best scores on vault (14.733) and parallel bars (14.533). These scores match some of his best from his two seasons as a Nittany Lion. His vault score tied him for first against the world vault Champion, Boheng Zhang from China. His parallel bars result earned him a fourth-place finish.
 
Raubal had another stellar performance on parallel bars with his highest mark of the day coming at 14.233 good for a seventh-place finish. He also took fifth on rings with a 15.566.
