UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (5-3, 0-1 B1G), ranked No. 16 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll, will close out a five game home stand on Sunday, Sept. 24, when it hosts No. 10 Syracuse (*6-1). The game will start at 12 p.m. at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. *Syracuse hosts Virginia on Friday, Sept. 22.
Penn State is coming off a split home weekend that saw it drop its conference opener. The Nittany Lions played No. 10 Rutgers tough into a second overtime before falling 1-0 in the second extra period. Two days later, Penn State got a penalty stroke goal from Mackenzie Allessie and a backhand shot from Sophia Gladieux to post a 2-1 win over Bucknell in non-conference action.
The Nittany Lions are being led by Gladieux, who has 21 points off 10 goals and one assist. Allessie has 12 off five and two while Carly Gannon has nine off three and three. Goalie Brie Barraco has 39 saves, a 1.36 goals against average and a .780 save percentage.
Syracuse, which hosts Virginia Friday before heading to Happy Valley, enters the weekend with a 6-1 mark after dropping its first game of the year on Friday, a 4-0 loss to Duke in its conference opener. The Orange rebounded for a 5-1 win over Wagner on Saturday. Penn State leads the all-time series with Syracuse 24-5-1, including a 4-1 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 12, 2021, in a game played at Maryland.
Penn State will visit Maryland in its next action on Sunday, Oct. 1. The Nittany Lions and Terrapins tangle at 2 p.m. in a Big Ten Network national telecast.

NITTANY LIONS DOWN BUCKNELL 2-1
Mackenzie Allessie scored on a penalty stroke, Sophia Gladieux added a backhand rocket and Brie Barraco tallied three saves to lead Penn State to a tough 2-1 win over visiting Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 17. The non-conference game was played in a steady rain at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
LIONS DROP 2-OT THRILLER TO #10 RUTGERS
Penn State dropped a hard-fought 1-0 double overtime thriller to No. 10 Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 15, in the conference opener for both teams. Penn State managed 17 shots and faced 16 and each goalie (PSU's Brie Barraco and RU's Sophia Howard) had seven saves a piece. But Rutgers found the back of the cage two minutes into extra time to get the win.
PHIA GLADIEUX'S HAT TRICK LEADS LIONS TO 4-1 IN OVER #19 DELAWARE
Phia Gladieux tallied her first hat trick of the season, scoring three goals to lead Penn State to a 4-1 victory over No. 19 Delaware on Sept. 10 at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. Gladieux was joined in the scoring column by Aubrey Semler, who scored her first career goal in the victory.
BALANCED OFFENSE, STRONG DEFENSE LEADS PENN STATE TO 5-0 WIN OVER KENT STATE
Penn State had four different players pick up multiple points and a total of five involved in scoring plays, and had a defense that recorded its first shutout, as the Nittany Lions downed Kent State 5-0 in the team's home opener on Sept. 9. Mackenzie Allessie had two goals, Phia Gladieux had a goal and an assist, Carly Gannon had a goal and an assist, Sophia Mannino had a goal and an assist, and Natalie Freeman had an assist. Brie Barraco and Lauren Delgado combined for the team's first shutout and Penn State held KSU to only two shots.
CARLY GANNON TALLIES SIX POINTS; GLADIEUX SCORES TWICE IN WIN AT STANFORD
Senior Carly Gannon had a career-best six points in Penn State's 5-1 win at Stanford on Sept. 3. Gannon had two goals and two assists in the non-conference victory. Phia Gladieux also had two goals in the win while keeper Lauren Delgado had five saves in her 15 minutes during the fourth period.
PHIA GLADIEUX SCORES TWICE IN TOUGH ROAD LOSS AT CAL
Senior Phia Gladieux scored both of Penn State's goals in a hard-fought 3-2 double-overtime loss at Cal on Sept. 1. The game was the first of two during a weekend West Coast Road sing for the Nittany Lions.
ALLESSIE SPARKS PENN STATE TO 3-2 OVERTIME WIN AT AMERICAN
Mackenzie Allessie scored the game's final two goals to spark Penn State to a 3-2 come-from-behind win at American on Aug. 27. Allessie's goals helped Penn State erase an early 2-0 deficit to the Eagles. Sophia Gladieux had the other goal for Penn State in the win.
LIONS DROP SEASON OPENER AT #6 VIRGINIA
Penn State lost a hard-fought 2-1 game to #6 Virginia in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 25. Freshman Natalie Freeman scored her first career goal to start the game but the Cavaliers scored the game's final two goals to grab the win.

PENN STATE SLATED FOR TWO NATIONAL TELECASTS ON THE BIG TEN NETWORK
The Penn State Nittany Lions will appear on two Big Ten Network national telecasts during the regular season. The games at Maryland on Oct. 1 (2 p.m.) and at Michigan on Oct. 15 (12 p.m.) have both been selected as national telecasts by the network.

Transportation Services has announced parking information for Penn State field hockey games at the Field Hockey Complex for the 2023 season.

PARKING PAYMENT INFORMATION
• No charge with a valid Penn State parking permit
• Prepaid parking available through https://psu.parkmobile.io/field-hockey-complex
o $5.50 through day before event, $10 day of event
o Fans who prepay for Stadium West or Jordan East parking through ParkMobile may also park at the Yellow H lots near the Shields and Wagner buildings except when they are posted as reserved for Bryce Jordan Center or Pegula Ice Arena event parking.
• Day-of event payment at Stadium West and Jordan East also available using in-lot pay stations or the ParkMobile app (zone no. 95112)
• On days when Field Hockey overlaps with a Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball or Men's Hockey game, ParkMobile prepayment and zone parking and pay station parking for Field Hockey will end two hours before those events, and cash only payment ($10) will be collected at the lots by attendants for those without a valid permit or prepayment. When Field Hockey games overlap with a Bryce Jordan Center concert/show, day-of-event payment may be as high as $30 for those without a permit or prepayment.

IMPORTANT PARKING REMINDERS
All vehicles must be parked with the license plate facing the drive aisle located closest to the parking space so that payment can be verified by parking enforcement staff.
A valid permit or payment is required in event parking areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Vehicles parked without a valid permit or payment may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense.
