ANTWERP, Belgium- Penn State men's gymnastics will be represented at the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships by four gymnasts. The Nittany Lions competing in Belgium represent four different countries. Kacper Garnczarek for Poland, Ethan Dick for New Zealand and Akseli Karsikas for Finland. 2021 alumni Andres Perez Gines will also be competing for Puerto Rico.
This event is instrumental in the road to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The qualifications will solidify the nine remaining Olympic Team places and the three next best ranked countries will get one non-nominative place. They will also allow eight male gymnasts to secure their tickets to the 2024 Olympics. The apparatus finals will be an opportunity for specialist to earn a spot in their event.
The event kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 with individual event and all-around qualifications.
The top 24 gymnasts will advance to the all-around finals and the top eight gymnasts will move on to the individual event finals. The all-around final will be on Oct. 5 and the apparatus finals on Oct. 7-8.
