Penn State Women’s Swimming and Diving Starts the Season Off with Big Win Against St. Bonaventure

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women's Swimming and Diving beats St. Bonaventure 212-86 at McCoy Natatorium during their first meet of the season.  

The Nittany Lions won every event of today's meet with some relay and diving sweeps to highlight the events of the day.  

Top Swims  

Senior Cat Stanford won the 200 freestyle leading the group by more than five seconds (1:52.13). Stanford also placed first in the 100 free (50.87) with junior Marly Lough who touched second (51.78).  

Senior Abby Henderson gained two individual victories in both the 200 backstroke (2:01.17) and the 200 IM (2:05.21). Henderson was also part of the winning team in the medley relay (1:43.12).  

Senior Captain Kylie Rydland had two individual wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.77) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.53).  

Penn State women won first and second in eight events, including the 1000 free, 100 back, 100 breaststroke, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 500 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.  

Relays  

The women swept the medley relay with the team of Henderson, Rydland, Brandbergh, and Stanford placing first (1:43.12). The teams of Carson, Markvardt, Loughlin, Brinker (1:44.80) and Mabry, Wiltrout, Meisner, Lough (1:47.38) placed second and 3rdthird respectively.  

The 400 freestyle relay team comprised of Stanford, Rinn, Henderson, and Meisner were also victorious with a time of 3:28.62.  

Top Dives  

Women's diving had two sweeps. In the 1m, Abigail Ekstrom took first (281.48), Kailey Koval placed second (259.73) and Tatum Evans earned third (220.73). Those three also swept the 3m, as Ekstrom won again (303.83).

Next Up  

The Nittany Lions will remain at home next weekend to take on the Navy Midshipmen, on Oct. 7 at McCoy Natatorium.
