Ryan Kirwan Named B1G Third Star of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior Ryan Kirwan (DeWitt, N.Y.) was named Big Ten Hockey's Third Star of the Week following a three-point weekend in the North Country as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.

Kirwan registered goals in each game while adding one assist as then-No. 18 Penn State defeated Clarkson, 4-2, and St. Lawrence, 4-1. The junior potted the eventual game-winning goal on the powerplay while adding an assist in Friday's victory over the Golden Knights before tacking on an insurance goal late in the third period of Saturday's 4-1 win against the Skating Saints.

The DeWitt, New York native has tallied at least one goal in three-straight games to open the season for the 3-0-0 Nittany Lions becoming just the third player in program history to score at least one goal in the first three games of a season joining Andrew Sturtz '20 and Kevin Wall '23, the latter accomplished this feat twice once in 2020-21 and again last season scoring in four-straight games to open the campaign which stands as the current mark to beat.

Kirwan's three goals are tied for second in the Big Ten and seventh in the nation while his five points place him tied for sixth in the conference and 16th nationally.

Penn State is back in action on Friday and Saturday as the Nittany Lions host AIC to open their 2023-24 home slate.
