PENN STATE OUTLOOK

The Nittany Lion women qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the first time sine 2019, and the 24th time since 1981 (NCAA era), with a second-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet last week. Four Penn State runners placed in the top 15 overall, all earning All-Region honors.

Florence Caron came in 11th place at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals and set a personal-best time of 19:59.9. Maddie Ullom, Sophia Toti, and Kileigh Kane all placed in the top 15 and set personal record times, as well. Claire Zubey also set a personal best as she came in 28th.

Penn State's championship-qualifying group is made up of a combination of veteran leaders and outstanding newcomers. Out of Penn State's top five runners from regionals, Ullom, Toti, and Kane are all in their fourth or fifth seasons with the Nittany Lions, while Caron and Zubey are making outstanding first impressions in their initial campaigns with the Blue & White. Head Coach John Gondak and Associate Head Coach Ryan Foster have guided this group of women back onto the national stage with each passing performance this year and will seek one last strong outing from the group to conclude the 2023 cross country season.
