UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams traveled to Philadelphia, Pa to participate in the Coach Nikki Franke Classic at Temple University Saturday and Sunday. Participating schools included Duke, Drexel, University of Florida, Navy, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr College, Boston College, John's Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Stevens, NYU and Haverford. The men's portion took place Sunday.
Out of 67 men's foil participants, Cheng Tit Nam finished in 2nd place with a 15-4 win over teammate Spencer Burke 15-4 in the semifinals for Burke to take 3rd. Donavyn Martinez finished in 18th place with Matthew Gonzalez in 36th.
In men's epee, Vasil Ivakimov led the Nittany Lions with a 7th place finish. Peter Kambeseles came in 11th and Kyle Yi in 24th.
The sabre squad featured a 10th place finish for Jeffrey Basalyga with Nico Pope in 31st.

Next, Penn State Fencing will send select fencers to compete at the November NAC next weekend, Nov. 10-13, in Fort Worth, Tex.
