ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A late third period comeback by the Penn State women's ice hockey team wasn't enough as the Nittany Lions fell to RIT 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT scored the opening goal of the game in the second period off the stick of Nicole Ness with 18:29 remaining in frame to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- The Tigers added one more goal in the period coming with 1:41 remaining in the frame off the stick of Jordyn Bear to give RIT a 2-0 advantage.
- With 0:34 remaining the frame, Alva Johnsson responded for Penn State to cut the RIT lead to one heading into the third frame.
- Katelyn Roberts scored the equalizer with 2:17 remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.
- RIT scored the game-winner 2:11 into the overtime period off the stick of Kylie Aquaro to seal the 3-2 victory.
GOALTENDER
- Goalie Josie Bothun stopped 23 shots and allowed three goals.
- Her record drops to 10-9-1 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- This is the first loss to RIT since February 15, 2020.
- Alva Johnsson scored her second goal of the season.
- Penn State out-shot RIT 46-28.
- Katelyn Roberts scored her third goal in the past three games.
