Marisa Repeats on Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll

ROSEMONT, Ill.- A career week for Penn State women's basketball's Makenna Marisa leads her to her second Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll nod of the season. Marisa surpassed 2,000 career points, becoming only the seventh Lady Lion in program history to accomplish this milestone. She also joins just 23 other active division I basketball talents to exceed the 2,000-point mark. This is the fourth weekly conference honor Penn State has earned this season as announced by the Big Ten on Monday afternoon.

Marisa led Penn State to two massive conference victories last week. The McMurray, Pa. native surpassed 2,000 career points, something only seven Lady Lions and 23 active division I women's basketball players have done, with a 20-point outing against Northwestern on Jan. 25. She led all scoring in a record-breaking performance for Penn State women's basketball against Maryland with 24 points in a 112-76 win on Sunday, Jan. 28. Marisa led the team to their first win over the Terrapins since Dec. 3, 2003 all while scoring 112 points on Maryland, the second most points the Terrapins have allowed in school history.

The senior+ guard was highly effective shooting the basketball, going 10-of-13 from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Her four blasts from three-point range add to the 16 total three-point field goals from Penn State to shatter a record it previously set this season at 14 against Central Connecticut State on Dec. 20. Marisa helps the Lady Lions to their best overall start to a season through 20 games since starting the 2013-14 season 16-4 and best conference start since going 6-1 in that same season.

Marisa and the rest of the Lady Lions team returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Minnesota.
