LINCOLN, Neb. – Penn State men's gymnastics posted a season high score in their 406.800-403.200 loss against Nebraska Saturday evening at the Devaney Center.
"Disappointing performance today," said head coach Randy Jepson. "We were primed and ready to make some decent improvements, but that didn't show today. We let it get away from us here with Nebraska, so we'll have to sharpen up to be more competitive in the Big Ten. Hopefully our guys are up for the challenge."
The Nittany Lions compiled season best team scores on vault (71.300), parallel bars (67.350) and on high bar (69.100).
Freshman Luke Esparo earned his second rings victory of the season posting a career high score of 14.000. The Wallingford, Conn. native also had a career high on floor with his score of 13.550.
Michael Jaroh earned his second consecutive pommel horse victory this season with a score of 13.950. He also competed on rings (13.750), parallel bars (13.000) and made his season debut on vault (14.350).
Michael Artlip notched two season high scores in Nebraska. The Bellaire, Texas native tied for first on floor with a score of 14.000. He stuck the landing on vault to earn a score of 14.400.
Penn State swept the top-three scores on parallel bars. Josh Karnes placed first, scoring a 14.550. The junior also took second on high bar tying his career high of 14.050. Matt Cormier finished second with a score of 13.900 and Ian Raubal took third (13.450).
Men's gymnastics will return to Rec Hall to match up against Ohio State Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.
