No. 25 Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Drexel, 10-8

PHILADELPHIA – No. 25 Penn State women's lacrosse fell to Drexel 10-8 in the team's first road test of the season Wednesday afternoon at Vidas Field.
 
The Nittany Lions move to 2-3 (0-0 Big Ten), while the Dragons improve to 1-1 (0-0 CAA). 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
First Quarter – PSU 3, Drexel 1
Freshman attacker Kelly MacKinney got scoring started nearly four minutes into the game to put the Nittany Lions up. 
 
Cam Evitts and Gretchen Gilmore both capitalized on free position shots. Evitt's goal was her first of the season. 
 
Second Quarter – PSU 5, Drexel 5
Drexel scored three consecutive goals to start off the second quarter. The Nittany Lions did not score until the 3:50 mark from a Drexel turnover and three Penn State shot attempts before Meghan Murray was finally able to put one past the Drexel keeper.
 
With a minute left in the quarter, both teams scored to go into halftime tied. Aly Lipkin scored with 17 seconds left.  
 
Third Quarter – PSU 6, Drexel 9
The Dragons broke the tie at the 10:47 mark, however Murray tied the game once again two minutes later for her second goal of the game to make the score 6-6. 
 
Drexel scored three times before the end of the quarter to take the lead.
 
Fourth Quarter – PSU 8, Drexel 10
Penn State was looking for momentum going into the fourth quarter after making a goalie switch to junior Ashley Bowan. Brooke Hoss ended the Dragons' scoring streak to put the Nittany Lions within two goals. 
 
Seven minutes later, Murray capitalizes on a Drexel turnover and scores her third goal of the game. 
 
Drexel was able to score two more goals before the end of the game. 
 
GAME NOTES
>> Penn State held the 25-18 advantage on shots. 
>> Murray led the scoring efforts with three goals, her eighth career hat trick. 
>> Payton Wainman notched two assists in the game. The sophomore leads the team with her six assists on the season. 
>> The defense scooped up 14 ground balls. 
>> Despite the loss, the Nittany Lions still lead the all-time series, 6-2.
