No. 22 Women’s Gymnastics to Host Senior Night Quad Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 22 Penn State women's gymnastics (7-6, 3-6 Big Ten) will host No. 25 Ball State (11-2), Towson (12-7) and West Virginia (5-9) in Rec Hall on March 1 at 6 p.m. The meet will serve as the Nittany Lions' senior day, presented by the Penn State Alumni Association.
 
The Nittany Lions posted their highest Big Five score since 2016 on Saturday, earning a 196.775 in Session II. Maddie Johnston and Amani Herring each earned career-best 9.9 total scores on vault. Additionally, Penn State's 49.350 on floor in the first rotation was the team's best event total of the evening.
 
Penn State is currently 2-0 against Ball State, 11-3 against Towson and 32-8 against West Virginia all-time.
 
PROMOTIONS – SENIOR DAY 

  • Penn State will honor seniors Sarah Duhe, Maggie Ayers, Maggie Mace, Gabbie Gallentine, and Maddie Johnston, along with graduate student Cassidy Rushlow, with a special Senior Day ceremony following Friday night's meet.
  • Senior Day is presented by the Penn State Alumni Association.

LAST TIME OUT 
 
Penn State earned 49-plus scores in every apparatus in Session II of the Big Five Meets. Penn State finished third out of five teams in their session last weekend.
 
VAULT — No. 24
 
Johnston and Herring led the team with their career-best 9.9 totals. Ava Piedrahita earned a 9.850 while Jessica Johanson posted a season-best 9.825. The team earned 49.225 overall on the apparatus.
 
BARS — No. 31 
 
Piedrahita came out on top for the team with her score of 9.875. Cassidy Rushlow earned a 9.85 and Johanson earned a season-best 9.825 on the apparatus. Penn State earned a 49.175 as a team.
 
BEAM — No. 14
 
Isabella Salcedo earned a 9.875 to lead the Nittany Lion balance beam group. Herring (9.825) and Piedrahita (9.8) both concluded their nights with 9.8-plus scores.
 
FLOOR — No. 39
 
Penn State scored 49.350, the team's highest event score of the afternoon. Salcedo earned a 9.9 and Alyssa Kramer tied her career high with a 9.875, her fourth 9.875 of the season. Herring and Piedrahita also earned 9.875s.
  
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Nittany Lions will compete twice next week. First, the team will travel to Southern Utah on March 8 for a 9 p.m. meet and then it will head to NC State for a quad meet on March 10 at 4 p.m.
