UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's gymnastics' Kalea McElligott was recognized as the Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Co-Freshman of the Week for her outstanding contributions in both of Penn State's road meets this past weekend.
McElligott earns a share of this week's conference newcomer honor thanks to a pair of excellent all-around scores this past weekend that included 9.8-or-better scores on all eight of her routines through Penn State's two meets. On Friday at Southern Utah, the Massapequa, N.Y. native tied her career high with a 9.9 on beam and collected 9.825 totals on vault and bars while also earning a 9.8 on floor. She followed that up on Sunday with another 39.350 in the all-around. She posted 9.825s on beam and floor and concluded her evening with a career best-tying 9.85 on vault and a career high 9.85 on bars.
The Penn State all-arounder collects her second Big Ten weekly accolade, earning the Nittany Lions' second Big Ten weekly award of the season.
