UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 22 Penn State women's gymnastics will face-off against George Washington, Towson, and Rutgers in Washington, D.C. in a Sunday quad meet at 1 p.m.
The Nittany Lions earned their third-best road score in school history at the NC State Quad Meet against NC State, Texas Woman's and Penn on Sunday. The team posted a 197.000 in an outstanding road competition. Sophomore Amani Herring tied her career high score with a 9.95 to win the event title.
Penn State also competed against Southern Utah University on Friday, before traveling to North Carolina. Piedrahita earned the event titles on vault (season-best 9.925) and in the all-around (season-best 39.525). Isabella Salcedo won the floor event title with her score of 9.9.
LAST TIME OUT
Penn State put together an outstanding two-meet weekend las week. The Nittany Lions started with a 196.525 on Friday and concluded the week with a 197.000 at NC State, the team's tenth-best team total ever.
VAULT — No. 21
While the Nittany Lions performed well on Friday at Southern Utah, the team stepped it up on Sunday at NC State, recording a season-best 49.250 on the apparatus. A 9.9 from Piedrahita and a career best-tying 9.85 from Kalea McElligott fueled the Nittany Lion group on vault.
BARS — No. 33
In a similar result, Penn State's solid outing on bars Friday night was upped in its competition on Sunday as the team posted a season-best 49.300. Gabbie Gallentine and Piedrahita posted 9.9s to front the group, while McElligott tied another career-best mark with a 9.85.
BEAM — No. 21
Penn State earned their best beam total of the weekend on Friday with a 49.200 at Southern Utah. Thanks to a career best-tying 9.9 from McElligott and a pair of 9.875s from Piedrahita and Salcedo, Penn State started off its weekend on beam strong.
FLOOR — No. 27
Penn State's 49.450 on floor at NC State on Sunday tied its sixth-best score on the event and was its best floor total since 2013. Led by Herring's 9.95 and Salcedo's 9.9, Penn State earned career-best 9.875 tallies from freshmen Alyssa Kramer and Ashley Maul. Kramer's score is her sixth 9.875 of her freshman campaign, while Maul's lifetime best came in just her third collegiate floor routine. Penn State's all-arounders took the final two spots on the list at NC State, with Piedrahita collecting a 9.85 and McElligott earning a 9.825.
WHAT'S NEXT
Penn State will travel to Michigan State for the 2024 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 23. The Nittany Lion will compete in session one.
