No. 11 Men's Lacrosse Welcomes Michigan for Final Regular Season Home Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 11 Penn State men's lacrosse team welcomes Michigan for the teams final regular season home game on Saturday, April 13 at noon. The team will honor their 17 seniors prior to game-time.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the 14th meeting between Michigan and Penn State. 
  • The Nittany Lions lead the series 10-3 with the last match-up coming on May 4, 2023 where the Nittany Lions fell to the Wolverines in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal 15-17. 

SCOUTING MICHIGAN

  • Michigan enters Saturday with a 6-5 overall record and 1-2 record in Big Ten play. They are coming off an 9-7 loss to Rutgers that came on April 6.
  • Leading the offense is Michael Boehm who leads the team with 46 points off 21 goals and 25 assists. 
  • In net, sits goalie Hunter Taylor who tallies a 6-5 record, GAA of 11.62 and save percentage of .491. 

NITTANY LIONS IN THE RANKINGS

  • Penn State men's lacrosse graduate attackman TJ Malone has been on a tear this season. Nationally, he ranks 10th in assists per game at 2.89 and third in points per game 5.44, leading the Big Ten in both categories. On the year, Malone has a total of 49 points off 23 goals and 26 assists.
  • Junior Matt Traynor currently sits second in the Big Ten in goals per game at 3.00 per game while he sits 10th in the nation in the same category. Traynor tallies 30 goals and five assists for 35 points.
  • Goalie Jack Fracyon currently sits 13th in the nation in GAA at 9.66 while placing second in the Big Ten. He sits first in the Big Ten in save percentage at .588 while sitting eighth nationally. 

IN THE POLLS

  • Following Penn State's loss to Johns Hopkins, the Nittany Lions moved to number 11 in the latest USILA poll announcement on Monday.
  • The Nittany Lions also dropped to 11 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and moved to the seven spot in the USA Lacrosse poll. 

MAC ATTACK

  • Graduate student Mac Costin has been on a scoring rush tallying a hat-trick in four of the last eight games he's played.   
  • He's surpassed a season high in goals with 21 so far on the year and has tied a career-high in points with 24 so far. 
  • He's scored a two or more goals in seven of the 10 games played this season.  

HONORING OUR SENIORS

  • Penn State will be honoring it's 2024 senior class prior to Saturday's game which features 17 members of the 2024 team. 
  • This group has combined 22 Academic All-Conference honors, six Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch awards, two USA Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week awards, and two USILA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse All-Americans. . 
  • Additionally, 14 of this year's senior class were a member of the 2023 NCAA semifinal and 2023 Big Ten Regular Season championship teams. 
  • In last year's season the Nittany Lions finished regular season non-conference play with a 5-2 record which propelled them to their second final four run in 2023.
