No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Concludes 2024 Regular Season Friday at Rutgers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 10 Penn State men's lacrosse team concludes the 2024 regular season on the road at Rutgers on Friday, April 19 at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the 73rd meeting between Rutgers and Penn State.
  • Rutgers lead the series 47-23 with the last matchup coming on April 21, 2023 where the Nittany Lions defeated the Scarlet Knights 14-5.

  • Penn State men's lacrosse graduate attackman TJ Malone has been on a hot streak this season. Nationally, he ranks 11th in assists per game at 2.80 and third in points per game 5.60, leading the Big Ten in both categories. On the year, Malone has a total of 56 points off 28 goals and 28 assists.
  • Junior Matt Traynor currently sits third in the Big Ten in goals per game at 2.91 per game while he sits 14th in the nation in the same category. Traynor tallies 32 goals and six assists for 38 points.
  • Goalie Jack Fracyon currently sits ninth in the nation in GAA at 9.51 while placing second in the Big Ten. He sits first in the Big Ten in save percentage at .587 while sitting sixth nationally. He tallied a career-high 19 saves in Penn State's 14-8 victory over Michigan on Saturday, April 13.

DEFENSE HOLDING THE LINE

  • In the Nittany Lions 11 games they've played this season they have held opponents to under 10 goals a game in seven games.  
  • Meanwhile they are forcing a minimum of four turnovers per game against opponents as well.
  • Sophomore Alex Ross has been the leader of that defense as he leads the team in caused turnovers with 10. 

LEHMAN AND MALONE EARN BIG TEN WEEKLY AWARDS

  • The Penn State men's lacrosse team captured two Big Ten Weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon. TJ Malone was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while Kyle Lehman was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
  • Malone earns his second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring five goals with two assists for seven points in Penn State's 14-8 victory over Michigan. It was the graduate student's fourth seven point or more game this season.
  • He currently leads the Big Ten in points and sits third in the nation in points per game. On the year, Malone has a total of 56 points off 28 assists and 28 goals.
  • Lehman secured his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after putting up four points against Michigan last Saturday.
  • He tallied his third hat-trick of the season and currently has 14 points off 10 goals and four assists.
