Chekhlystova, Lebedeva Grab Big Ten Women's Tennis Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sofiya Chekhlystova and Alina Lebedeva were honored by the Big Ten for the 2024 season on Wednesday afternoon. Both seniors, Chekhlystova was selected to the All-Big Ten team, and Lebedeva was given the Sportsmanship Award. Chekhlystova joins Olga Novikova (1995-97) and Petra Januskova (2011-13) as the only Nittany Lions to earn three All-Big Ten selections.

The Estonia native has 15 singles wins this season, including a 10-5 mark in dual matches. She is 6-3 in the Big Ten, while playing the majority of her matches at No. 1. She also owns 10 doubles wins, including seven in dual matches while playing with four different partners, and two wins in Big Ten matches.

Eight of her 10 singles wins this Spring have come in straight-sets.

Entering this week's Big Ten Tournament match, Chekhlystova owns 56 career singles wins, including 45 in dual matches and three wins over ranked opponents, while going 35-15 at No. 1. She has also collected 37 doubles wins, including 30 in dual matches and 13 at the top doubles position.

In her Penn State career, Chekhlystova is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District in 2023 as an accounting major.
In her fourth year at Penn State, Lebedeva has seven overall singles wins, including three in dual matches and two in Big Ten play. In doubles, Lebedeva has collected 13 doubles wins, including eight in dual matches and five against Big Ten opponents.

Lebedeva has earned three career Academic All-Big Ten selections and is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar as a telecommunications major.
