UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 9 Penn State men's lacrosse team will face No. 10 Georgetown in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 12 in Washington, D.C. at 2:30 p.m., announced by the NCAA Sunday evening. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
This is the second consecutive season the Nittany Lions were selected to the tournament and the seventh time in program history. Their first appearance was in 2003. Last season, Penn State made it all the way to the Championship Weekend were they narrowly fell to Duke in the semifinals of the tournament by a score of 13-12 in overtime.
Penn State has won a total of four games in the NCAA tournament and has made the final four in two seasons.
Penn State is 11-4 (3-2 Big Ten), while Georgetown is 12-3 (4-1 Big East). The Hoyas clinched the Big East tournament title on Saturday, May 4 where they defeated Villanova 11-10 in overtime to win the title. The Nittany Lions are facing the Hoyas for the 16th time in program history as Georgetown leads the series 10-5. The last time the two teams met was in 2009 where the Nittany Lions defeated the Hoyas 12-11 in double overtime on May 2, 2009.
The winner of Sunday's game will move on to the quarterfinal round of the tournament and compete against the winner of the Notre Dame and Sacred Heart/Albany game on May 18.
