Women’s Tennis’ Chekhlystova Named Academic All-District

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's tennis senior Sofiya Chekhlystova was tabbed College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District on Tuesday. She advanced to voting for Academic All-America honors.

Chekhlystova adds to her career academic honors, which include three Academic All-Big Ten selections, two Big Ten Distringuished Scholar accolades and 2023 and 2024 Academic All-District as an accounting major.

In late April, Chekhlystova was recognized as All-Big Ten for the third time in her career, joining Olga Novikova (1995-97) and Petra Januskova (2011-13) as the only Nittany Lions to earn three All-Big Ten selections.

The Estonia native finished her senior season with 16 singles wins this season, including an 11-6 mark in dual matches. She was 7-4 against Big Ten opponents, while playing the majority of her matches at No. 1. She also collected 10 doubles wins, including seven in dual matches while playing with four different partners, and two wins in Big Ten matches.

Nine of her 11 singles wins this Spring came in straight-sets.

Chekhlystova owns 57 career singles wins, including 46 in dual matches and three wins over ranked opponents, while going 36-16 at No. 1. She has also tallied 37 doubles wins, including 30 in dual matches and 13 at the top doubles position.

In 2022-23, she recorded 22 singles wins, playing exclusively at No. 1, and 14 doubles wins. She ranked as high as No. 42 in the ITA Singles Poll and finished the season ranked No. 66.

In 2021-22, Chekhlystova secured 18 singles wins and 14 doubles wins, playing all singles matches at No. 1.

As a freshman in 2020-21, she recorded eight singles wins and seven doubles victories.
