ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State women's lacrosse goalkeeper Sydney Manning has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
She joins Kristin O'Neill (2021) and Madison Carter (2015) as the only Penn State student-athletes to earn the honor.
Manning has been a workhorse in the cage all season. The freshman has started 16 games in her rookie campaign, making 100 saves. She also scooped up 24 ground balls.
Manning played a huge role in the Nittany Lions upset victories over No. 1 Northwestern and then-No. 4 Maryland. She was also clutch in the post season, collecting 20 saves in the tournament.
The Malvern, Pa. native was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on two occasions and Defensive Player of the Week once.
