Baseball Earns Three Spots On ABCA All-Region Teams

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Three members of the Penn State baseball team were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region East Team on Tuesday. Grad students Adam Cecere and J.T. Marr were tabbed to the first team, while senior pitcher Travis Luensmann was selected second team.
 
Penn State has three ABCA All-Region selections for the first time since 1973 (Dennie DeWitt, Jerry Micsky, Don Stine). Cecere, Luensmann and Marr give Penn State 46 all-time ABCA All-Region honorees.
 
The Nittany Lions' three All-Region selections are tied with Maryland for the most among Big Ten teams.

Penn State tied with Wright State for the most All-Region East first-team selections with two. PSU also had the most All-Region East selections among Pennsylvania schools.

  • Earned second-team All-Big Ten and All-Big Ten Tournament honors.
  • Played in 153 games (151 starts) in his collegiate career.
  • Had a .340 career average with 211 hits (35 doubles, four triples, 16 homers), 123 RBI, 113 runs, 48 walks and 22 steals, while maintaining a .996 fielding percentage.
  • Posted a .487 slugging percentage and .390 on-base percentage in his career.
  • Notched his 200th career hit in Maryland series.
  • Started 53 games in 2024, splitting time between catcher and designated hitter.
  • In 2024, Marr is batting .416 with 92 hits (17 doubles, six homers), 54 RBI, 50 runs, 20 walks and three steals, while posting a .995 fielding percentage.
  • His batting average never dipped below .408 in the entire 2024 season.
  • Had a .575 slugging percentage and a .464 on-base percentage.
  • Hit .379 in conference games and is tied fourth in the Big Ten with 39 hits in conference games.
  • Owns 30 multi-hit games, including 17 against Big Ten opponents, and 17 multi-RBI games. He has two games with four hits and 14 games with three hits. His 30 multi-hit games are 11th in the nation.
  • Marr's 92 hits are tied-second in a season at Penn State, while his .416 average is 11th.
  • He ranks fourth in the country (second in Big Ten) with his .416 average and second in the nation (2nd B1G) averaging 1.74 hits per game.
  • Marr's 92 total hits are 22nd in the country and second in the Big Ten, while his 1.039 OPS ranks 11th in the conference.
  • He tallied eight hits and five RBI in four Big Ten Tournament games.

  • Played in 196 games (183 starts) in his collegiate career.
  • Owned a .294 career average with 193 hits (39 doubles, two triples, 49 homers), 169 RBI, 164 runs, 127 walks, 27 HBP and 10 steals.
  • Had a .584 slugging percentage and .423 on-base percentage in his career.
  • As a Nittany Lion, made 53 starts with a .324 average, 60 hits (14 double, 17 homers), 53 RBI, 50 runs, 47 walks, 10 HBP and seven steals.
  • Had 20 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI games.
  • Led the Big Ten with a 1.150 OPS and a .676 slugging percentage and ranked fourth with a .474 on-base percentage.
  • Ranked third in Big Ten with 17 homers and 0.32 home runs per game and held third with nine homers in conference games.
  • Sat third in the conference with 47 walks.
  • Tied for the season record at Penn State with 47 walks, matching Eric Spadt (47, 2000).
  • Tied second in a season at PSU with 17 homers, ranked sixth with a .676 slugging percentage, tied-seventh with 10 hit-by-pitches, eighth with 125 total bases and tied-ninth with 53 RBI.

Second Team

  • Tabbed All-Big Ten Tournament Team.
  • Finished his Penn State career with 45 appearances (33 starts) and a 15-10 record with three saves.
  • Notched a 4.44 ERA in 208.2 innings, while recording 211 strikeouts.
  • As a senior, Luensmann went 7-2 with a 4.44 ERA in 16 appearances (15 starts).
  • In 81 innings, he recorded 74 strikeouts and held opponents to a .210 average.
  • Ranked fifth in the Big Ten in hits allowed per nine innings (6.67). good for 35th in the country, and sixth in wins (7).
  • Went six or more innings in six of his 15 starts and five or more innings in 12 starts.
  • Allowed two or less earned runs in nine of his 15 starts.
  • He had six or more strikeouts in six of his starts.
  • In two Big Ten Tournament starts, he allowed two runs over 12 innings and struck out 13 batters.

 
Penn State, in its first season under head coach Mike Gambino, finished the season with a 29-24 overall record and a 12-12 mark in Big Ten play. PSU's 29 wins are its most under a first-year head coach.
 
The Nittany Lions posted their first winning record in the regular season since 2016 (28-27) and maintained a .500 or better mark for the entire season for the first time since 2011 (32-22). The Blue and White posted its best record in Big Ten play since going 12-12 in 2016.
 
Penn State finished with a Top-100 RPI for the first time since 2007.
 
PSU reached the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game for the first time since 2000 and won three-straight games to open the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in program history.
