UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Wrestling's Beau Bartlett and women's ice hockey's Julie Gough were selected as Penn State's representatives as the Big Ten Conference's Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Gough played an integral role as the Nittany Lions returned to the NCAA Tournament for a second- straight season. She served as the team's captain in the 2023-24 season while leading the team to their second-straight AHA Tournament title and NCAA Tournament run. The Newcastle, Ontario native finished her career with 79 points, which placed her seventh all-time in program history. She was a key piece in Penn State's 2023 AHA Tournament title victory as she scored the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the Nittany Lions first league tournament title.
Gough was a five-time AHA All-Academic Team honoree, four-time American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Scholar All-American and served on the Penn State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her time at Penn State. In addition to leaving University Park with a master's degree in educational leadership, Gough finished her career with the second most appearances in program history with 157 games played.
Nittany Lion wrestler Beau Bartlett ended the 2023-24 as the 2024 NCAA National Runner-Up at 141 pounds, helping lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to the 2024 NCAA Championship in Kansas City. Bartlett became a two-time All-American with the performance. He ended the season with a 24-2 overall record and an 11-0 mark in dual meets (8-0 in Big Ten duals). Bartlett had seven pins and three majors this year. Penn State went 12-0 on the season, won the Big Ten Regular Season Championship, the Big Ten Championship and capped off the campaign with its 11th NCAA title in the past 13 events.
Bartlett, who has announced he is coming back for an extra year this coming season, has a 74-18 career record with 14 pins, one technical fall and 12 majors. He has been a starter on three-straight NCAA Championship teams. Bartlett is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time NWCA National All-Academic pick.
