MINNEAPOLIS – Penn State men's gymnastic alumnus Stephen Nedoroscik earned a bid to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games following the Olympic Trials held in Minneapolis over the weekend.
Nedoroscik will join Stanford's Asher Hong and Brody Malone and Michigan's Paul Juda and Fred Richards on the five-man team.
The Worchester, Mass. native qualifies for his first Olympic team after falling short of making the Tokyo Olympic team three years ago. That year Nedoroscik was the world champion on pommel horse.
The pommel horse specialist led the pack in the event after day one of the trials, earning a score of 14.450. On day two, Nedoroscik notched a 14.850 to punch his ticket to Paris.
Current Nittany Lion Josh Karnes also competed at his first ever Olympic Trials. The Erie, Pa. native posted his highest scores of both days on parallel bars where he notched a 14.400 to placed ninth. Karnes took eighth on high bar and 12th on floor.
Nedoroscik and former teammate Sam Zakutney become the 21st and 22nd Penn State men's gymnastics Olympians. Artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games will be held July 27-August 5.
The pair are the program's first Olympians since the 2012 London Olympics.
The United States will look to secure its first Olympic medal since 2008 and Canada since 2006.
