UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team and head coach Jeff Kampersal have selected junior Tessa Janecke to serve as the team's captain for the 2024-25 season.
Entering her third season at Penn State, Janecke has been the one of the most productive forwards in the team's history. The Orangeville, Ill. native has led the Nittany Lions to two straight NCAA tournament appearances and two straight College Hockey America titles. In her sophomore season, she was named an CCM/AHCA Second Team All-American after a career-high year.
Her sophomore season consisted of being named to the First Team All-CHA, CHA Player, CHA Forward of the Year, and finished the regular season as the leagues scoring champion after recording a career-high 17 goals and 36 assists.
The Orangeville, Ill. native was named CHA Forward of the Week four times and CHA Forward of the Month three times. She also tallied two hat-tricks coming against Lindenwood and Dartmouth. Janecke recorded a total of 53 points which sat tied for eighth in the nation while she led the nation in faceoff wins with 630 and was tied for fourth in assists.
Janecke also became the fastest player in program history to hit 100 career points that she accomplished after scoring a goal against RIT in the second game of the CHA tournament semifinals. She was also named a Top 10 Patty Kazmaier Award finalist for the first time in her career.
Off the ice, Janecke is a two-time CHA All-Academic team honoree and helps in community service efforts such as THON, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and Night to Shine.
Penn State kicks off the 2024-25 season on Thursday, Sept. 26 when they host Northeastern at Pegula Ice Arena.
