UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State cross country landed both its men’s and women’s teams inside the top five of the Mid-Atlantic Region preseason rankings, the USTFCCCA announced Monday.
Penn State’s women’s group returns a core group of veterans from its 2023 NCAA Championship-qualifying squad as it heads into the 2024 season. The Nittany Lions, last year’s No. 2 team in the region, is once again ranked second to Georgetown in the first USTFCCCA regional rankings of the season less than two weeks before their first meet.
The Penn State men gained valuable experience in a fourth-place finish in the region last season and find themselves ranked fifth heading into 2024. With a solid incoming group coupled with great returners, the Nittany Lion men are set to contend for a top spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region once again.
Penn State opens its season at Lock Haven where they will run in the annual Dolan Duals on September 6 against the Bald Eagles. The Nittany Lions will then return to Happy Valley for their only regular season home meet of the 2024 campaign, the Spiked Shoe Invitational on September 13.
