Postgame Notes: No. 8 Penn State vs. Bowling Green

TEAM 

  • Penn State is now 3-0 all-time against Bowling Green. 
  • Penn State is 31-3 all-time against current members of the MAC, including 10-straight wins. 
  • Penn State is 123-13-1 all-time in home openers and 55-10 in Beaver Stadium home openers, including wins in 21 of the last 23 home openers. 
  • The Nittany Lions have won 21 consecutive games over non-conference opponents during the regular season, dating back to a win over Temple in 2016. 
  • Penn State has won 20 consecutive games against teams that are not members of a Power Four conference.

Defense 

  • On Bowling Green’s opening drive, Penn State snapped a streak of 28-straight games not allowing a first-drive touchdown, dating back to the Michigan State game in 2021. It was the nation’s longest active streak.  
  • The Nittany Lions snapped a streak of 15-straight regular season non-conference games not allowing more than 20 points. 

 

Special Teams 

  • Penn State has not allowed a special teams touchdown in 63-straight games, dating back to the start of the 2019 season. 

 

OFFENSE 
 

Team 

  • Penn State had nine plays of 20+ yards on Saturday (five passes, four rushes) giving them 14 this season (eight passes, six rushes). 
  • The Nittany Lions collected 438 total yards. Since 2014, Penn State has reached 400 total yards in 71 games with a 58-13 record in those games.  
  • Penn State threw for 204 yards, the 84th occasion with at least 200 passing yards since 2014. In those games, the Nittany Lions are 63-21. 
  • The Nittany Lions ran for 234 yards, marking the 45th time since 2014 with at least 200 rushing yards. In those games, Penn State is 40-5.  
  • Penn State had two 100-yard rushers today (Nicholas Singleton, 119; Kaytron Allen, 101), marking the first time the Nittany Lions had two 100-yard rushers in the same game since Singleton (137) and Allen (118) at Michigan State in 2023. 
  • It also marks the second time Allen and Singleton both rushed for 100 yards in a game. 

 

Drew Allar 

  • QB Drew Allar threw for 204 yards on 13 completions. It was the ninth 200-yard passing game of Allar’s career. 
  • Allar scored on a 5-yard rush in the first quarter. It was his sixth career rushing touchdown. 
  • He connected with Omari Evans on a 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter and tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Nicholas Singleton in the third quarter, marking his 11th career game with multiple passing touchdowns. 
  • Allar earned his fifth career game with both a passing and rushing touchdown. 
  • The junior completed five passes of 20+ yards and owns eight completions of 20+ yards this season. 
  • With his three touchdowns today that he was responsible for (2 passing, 1 rushing), Allar now has 40 career touchdowns responsible for, moving him to 13th at Penn State, and just one behind Lydell Mitchell (41; 1969-71) for 12th place.  

 

Kaytron Allen 

  • RB Kaytron Allen finished the day with 101 yards rushing, his fifth career 100-yard rushing game.  
  • Allen had a 26-yard run on Penn State’s opening drive and added a 26-yard run in the third quarter. 

 

Nicholas Singleton 

  • RB Nicholas Singleton had 119 yards rushing, his seventh career 100-yard rushing game. 
  • With 119 yards on the ground, Singleton became the 20th Penn State player with at least 2,000 career rushing yards. 
  • Singleton’s 119 rushing yards give him 2,046 for his career, moving him into 18th place at Penn State, 26 yards behind Booker Moore (2,072 yards, 1977-80) for 17th place. 
  • A week after dashing for a 40-yard touchdown run at West Virginia, Singleton had a 41-yard touchdown rush late in the fourth quarter. 
  • The sophomore had two rushes of 20+ yards (24 yards in the second quarter, 41 in the fourth quarter), giving him four rushes of at least 20 yards this season and 20 for his career. 
  • The 41-yard rush marked the third 40+ yard rush of the season for Singleton. 
  • Singleton’s 41-yard rush is the 10th 40+ yard rush of his career. 
  • He hauled in a 14-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, it was his fourth career touchdown reception. 
  • Singleton’s rushing touchdown gives him 22 career rushing touchdowns, moving him into a tie for 17th with Daryll Clark (22; 2005-09). He trails Lenny Moore (23; 1953-55) by one score for 16th place.  
  • Singleton had 133 all-purpose yards (119 rushing, 14 receiving) giving him 3,184 career all-purpose yards which is good for 18th at Penn State. He trails Ki-Jana Carter by 45 yards (3,229; 1992-94) for 17th place. 

 

Omari Evans 

  • WR Omari Evans made a 29-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter. It was his third career touchdown reception. 

 

Tyler Warren 

  • TE Tyler Warren posted a career-high 146 yards on a career-best eight receptions. His previous bests were six catches against Delaware in 2023 and 127 yards against Ole Miss in the 2023 Peach Bowl. 
  • Warren’s 146 receiving yards are a Penn State tight end record in a game, topping Matt Kranchick’s 136 yards against Wisconsin in 2003. 
  • The senior earned his second-career 100-yard receiving game. He is tied-second among Penn State tight ends, trailing only Ted Kwalick (1966-68). He is tied with Mickey Shuler (2; 1975-77) and Pat Freiermuth (2; 2018-20). 
  • Warren hauled in catches of 22 and 30 yards in the second quarter.  
  • He added receptions of 29 and 23 yards in the third quarter. He owns 11 career receptions of 20+ yards. 

 

DEFENSE 

 

Team 

  • The Nittany Lions stopped Bowling Green on a fourth down conversion in the second quarter. It was Penn State’s second fourth down stop this season. 
  • Penn State held Bowling Green to six total yards in the third quarter (1 rushing, 5 passing) and 89 in the second half (27 rushing, 62 passing) 
  • Penn State grabbed 2 interceptions in the fourth quarter, giving it 5 takeaways this season (2 fumbles, 3 interceptions) 
  • Since 2022, Penn State has forced 55 turnovers (29 interceptions, 26 fumbles). 
  • Since 2022, the Nittany Lions are 15-0 when forcing multiple takeaways in a game. 
  • With two interceptions today, Penn State has now forced multiple takeaways in a game 57 times since 2014. 

 

Jaylen Reed 

  • S Jaylen Reed had a career-high 10 tackles. His previous career best was 9 at West Virgina last week.

  • LB Abdul Carter recorded seven tackles including a solo tackle for loss in the third quarter. 
  • Carter now has 17 career tackles for loss.  

 

Zakee Wheatley 

  • S Zakee Wheatley had an interception in the fourth quarter, giving him three for his career. Previously he had one interception at Auburn and vs. Central Michigan in 2022. 
  • Wheatley recorded five tackles in the first half and finished the game with 6 stops, tying his career-high that he had in 2023 at Illinois. 

 

Tony Rojas 

  • LB Tony Rojas grabbed the second interception of his career in the fourth quarter. He also had an interception in 2023 at Maryland. 

 

SPECIAL TEAMS 

 

Sander Sahaydak 

  • K Sander Sahaydak drilled a career-long 43-yard field goal in the second quarter. It was his first career field goal of 40+ yards. 
  • He added a 28-yard field goal later in the quarter. 
  • Sahaydiak was 4-4 on extra point attempts and is 8-8 for the season. 

 

Riley Thompson 

  • P Riley Thompson blasted a 56-yard punt in the first quarter and finished the day averaging 47.0 yards on four punts. 
  • Thompson landed a punt at the Bowling Green 19 in the fourth quarter and then dropped another at the Bowling Green 15 later in the fourth. 
  • With the two punts inside the 20, Thompson has 46 career punts inside the 20. 
  • Thompson’s 57-yard boot was the 31st career punt of 50+ yards.
