UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 12/12 Penn State women’s ice hockey team rallied in the third period to shutout Dartmouth 2-0 on Friday night.
Nicole Hall and Tessa Janecke each fired unanswered goals in the third period to result in the victory. It’s the first time since March 2, 2024, when Katie DeSa recorded a 1-0 shutout against Mercyhurst.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first two periods went scoreless with Dartmouth and Penn State going a combined 0-5 on the power-play through two periods.
- Then Hall went backhand to forehand as she was able to push the puck passed the Dartmouth goaltender to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead with 11:58 left in the third frame.
- In the closing seconds, Janecke received a pass from Kendall Butze from the opposite end of the ice and drove up to the net and tapped the puck in to secure the 2-0 victory with 0:27 seconds remaining in the frame.
GOALTENDERS
- DeSa tallied 15 saves on 15 attempted to secure her first shutout victory of the season and fifth of her career. Her record improves to 4-2-0 on the season.
- Dartmouth goalie Michaela Hesova made 41 saves in freshman debut off 42 shots as her record drops to 0-1-0 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Janecke recorded her fifth goal of the season and 44th of her career. She now has 110 points in her career.
- Hall tallied her second goal of the season.
- The Nittany Lions went 0-2 on the power-play while Dartmouth was held to 0-4 on the power-play.
- Penn State improves to 5-2-0 on the year while Dartmouth drops to 0-1-0.
- The Nittany Lions currently lead the all-time series 3-0-0.
- This is the first shutout against Dartmouth in program history.
- Penn State attendance was 1,124 which is the 14th highest in program history.
