ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Penn State men’s soccer team tallied a pair of Big Ten Conference men’s soccer postseason honors, the B1G office announced in a release on Friday afternoon.
First-year Malick Daouda earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team, marking the third consecutive season a Nittany Lion rookie was honored. Joining Daouda was redshirt junior, Ben Liscum, who was named to the B1G Sportsmanship Team.
Daouda, a native of Montreal, Canada, has been a key contributor for the Nittany Lions since stepping on campus this fall. The freshman midfielder tallied his first career start in the season opener at then no. 1-ranked Clemson, and started all 15 games he appeared in. He tallied four points on the season from two goals. His first career score in Happy Valley came in the 86th minute of the match against Michigan State, sealing a 2-1 victory for PSU. For his efforts against the Spartans, Daouda was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.
Liscum was one of 11 Sportsmanship Award honorees, with one representative from each member institution. Each student-athlete chosen has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior and must also be in good academic standing while demonstrating good citizenship outside of the competition field. The award marks the second all-conference honor of Liscum’s career. The co-captain started 14 of 16 games this season, notching a goal in the match against St. Bonaventure, opening the scoring in a 4-0 triumph. In the 2022 season, the Lewisburg, Pa. native was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
