2024 Penn State Women's Volleyball Schedule Notes

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 2024 Penn State Women's Volleyball schedule is set. It features 31 matches, including 11 against non-conference opponents and the usual 20 against Big Ten teams. This marks the first season with four additional conference opponents – Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington.

2024 Penn State Women's Volleyball schedule notes:

  • The schedule includes 13 matches against teams that played in last year's NCAA Tournament (Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, Pitt, JMU, Yale, Purdue twice, Oregon, Minnesota, USC, Wisconsin, and Nebraska).
  • Penn State will play eight of the 15 other teams (The Nittany Lions were one of the 16) from last year's Sweet 16 (Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, Pitt, Purdue, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Nebraska).
  • The Nittany Lions open the season at Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 30. It is the first match between the teams since 2005.
  • The home opener at Rec Hall is against Louisville on Tuesday, Sept. 3. It features the only two female head coaches to lead their team to the Sweet 16 in each of the past two NCAA Division I Tournaments.
  • The Nittany Lions' match at Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 6 marks the first matchup between the teams since the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
  • Penn State renews its rivalry with Pitt when the teams play at the Petersen Events Center on Wednesday, Sept. 18. It is the first regular season contest between the teams since the Nittany Lions won a five-set thriller in the same arena in 2019.
  • Penn State opens Big Ten play at Purdue on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The Boilermakers are one of three teams – the others are Michigan State and Maryland, that the Nittany Lions play twice during conference play. They play the other 14 teams once.
  • Concerning the four Big Ten newcomers, Penn State makes a trip to play UCLA (Oct. 24) and USC (Oct. 26), while Oregon (Oct. 4) and Washington (Nov. 24) come to Happy Valley. The Ducks last played in Rec Hall in 2019, while the Huskies last played in State College in 1995.
  • Two historic powers square off in the final regular season match of the season as Nebraska comes to Rec Hall on Friday, Nov. 29. The two programs have combined to win 12 NCAA titles.
