UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Continuing the Penn State track & field preview series is the Nittany Lion multi-event group. Assistant Coach Fritz Spence’s multi-event athletes are primed for a strong season in 2025 after earning three Big Ten medals through indoor and outdoor season in 2024.
WOMEN’S TEAM
Standout junior Maddie Pitts returns to the Nittany Lion women’s team with two pieces of hardware in her trophy case. The Victor, N.Y. native won Big Ten bronze in the indoor pentathlon then took silver in the heptathlon during outdoor season. She also ran on Penn State’s school record-setting sprint medley relay team.
Allison Spalding also returns to the Nittany Lions for her junior campaign. Spalding set PRs in all seven of the heptathlon events in her last three meets of the 2024 outdoor season and is primed for a strong junior season.
Newcomers include Madeline Söderqvist, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, as well as freshman Angelina Massey.
MEN’S TEAM
Freshman Zack Mountain comprises the men’s multi-event team in 2025. Mountain will seek to establish a strong foundation in his first collegiate season following an outstanding high school career in which he was a 13-time NJSIAA section medalist.
