MINNEAPOLIS – No. 16 Penn State women’s gymnastics (5-2, 0-1 Big Ten) tallied a 195.700 team score but ultimately fell to No. 21 Minnesota (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) on Saturday evening in Maturi Pavilion.
The Nittany Lions earned multiple career-best scores, while 9.85 tallies from Cassi Barbanente on bars and Amani Herring on floor were the top two scores for Penn State on Saturday evening.
ROTATION RECAP
Penn State began its night on bars, starting strong with a season-best 49.125 team total on the apparatus. Barbanente’s season-high 9.85 led the way while Dani Latronica, Gabbie Gallentine, and Maddie Johnston all came in at 9.825. Jessica Johanson rounded out the scoring routines with a 9.8, giving the Nittany Lions a superb start to the meet.
On vault, Elizabeth Leary and Kalea McElligott tallied 9.825 scores to lead the group to a season-best 48.950 team total. Johanson posted another 9.8 while Elina Vihrova and Johnston scored 9.75s. Vihrova’s tally was her highest vault score of the season.
The Nittany Lions received an outstanding season-best 9.85 from Herring on floor while McElligott picked up a 9.825 and Johanson scored a 9.75. As a group, Penn State scored a 48.725.
Finishing strong, Penn State posted a 48.900 on beam, highlighted by a 9.825 from Isabella Salcedo in her season debut. Ashley Maul and McElligott scored 9.8s with excellent routines as Penn State wrapped up its night in the fourth and final rotation.
