ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore Aiden Fink (Calgary, Alberta) has been nominated to the initial list for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as announced on Wednesday morning. The award is presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey.
Fink earns the second Hobey Baker nomination of his career as he currently leads the team in each offensive category with 31 points on 14 goals and 17 assists ranking fourth in the Big Ten in both points and goals while his 17 assists are tied for sixth. Fink’s 31 points and 14 goals are tied for fifth and sixth in the nation, respectively. The sophomore is currently second in the Big Ten and tied for third in the nation averaging 1.41 points per game and is plus-13 through 22 games so far this season.
This past weekend, Fink registered the 14th hat-trick in Penn State history marking the second hat-trick of his career as he become the first Nittany Lion in program history to register multiple hat-tricks in a career. Fink is also now the only Nittany Lion to begin his career with back-to-back 30+-point seasons and becomes just the seventh all-time to have multiple such seasons.
The Calgary, Alberta has eight multi-point efforts in 22 games this season and has only been kept off the scoresheet on four occasions. He has already registered multiple six-game point streaks along with a career-best seven-game streak from December 6 through his hat-trick on January 17.
Fan voting is open now and will run through March 9. Each fan is allowed one VOTE per day during this initial phase. Phase two of fan voting will begin once the list has been narrowed to the top-10 finalists on March 19 and run through March 30. The fan vote accounts for a full one percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year’s award recipient.
The Hobey Hat Trick will then be announced on April 3 with the winner to be awarded during the 2025 Frozen Four in St. Louis, Missouri on April 12.
