No. 19 Women’s Gymnastics to Welcome Rutgers to Rec Hall on Friday for Big Ten Home Opener

5-2 Nittany Lions to host Scarlet Knights on Friday night

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 19 Penn State women’s gymnastics (5-2, 0-1 Big Ten) is set to host Rutgers (9-1, 1-0 Big Ten) in Rec Hall on Friday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. for its Big Ten home opener.

PROMOTIONS – WINTER WONDERLAND 

  • Penn State welcomes one and all to a winter-themed night of gymnastics in Rec Hall!
  • Fans will be treated to a Winter Wonderland photo backdrop and a snowflake-making station among other winter-themed activities.
  • Additional activities include a face painter, a gymnastics zone, and post-meet autographs with Nittany Lion gymnasts.

LAST TIME OUT

The Nittany Lions began their Big Ten dual meet slate with a trip to Minnesota on Friday. Penn State scored a 195.700, setting season-best team scores on vault and bars.

VAULT – No. 30

Penn State scored a season-best 48.950 on vault in the second rotation, led by 9.825 tallies from Elizabeth Leary and Kalea McElligott. Elina Vihrova posted a season-best 9.75 score at Minnesota.

BARS – No. 17

In the first rotation of the night at Minnesota, Penn State impressed with a 49.125 on bars, its best tally of the season on the apparatus. The Nittany Lions were led by a season-best 9.85 from Cassi Barbanente while Dani Latronica, Gabbie Gallentine, and Maddie Johnston all came in with 9.825s. Jessica Johanson rounded out the superb rotation with a 9.8.

BEAM – No. 15

Penn State’s highest-ranked event is beam, where it slots in at 15th in the country ahead of its matchup against Rutgers. Last time out at Minnesota, Pen State scored a 48.900, highlighted by a 9.825 from Isabella Salcedo in her season debut. Ashley Maul and McElligott posted 9.8 tallies as well.

FLOOR – No. 21

Amani Herring’s 9.85 fronted a Penn State floor rotation at Minnesota. Penn State ranks 21st in the nation on floor heading into Friday night.
