UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Men’s Tennis team is set to begin its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 25 in a doubleheader against Temple and Fordham. The Nittany Lions continue the weekend in another doubleheader on Sunday, Jan 26., facing Quinnipiac and Bucknell. On both days, the first match will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the second match will follow at 2:30 p.m. All four matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Center.
THE NITTANY LIONS
Entering his first season as head coach, Bruce Lipka, will lead Penn State alongside associate head coach Brian Ward, who is also in his first season.
Veterans Sam Bossem, Charl Morgan and Loren Byers return this season alongside members from last year’s squad, junior Stefan Simeunovic, sophomores Jack Martuccio, Nolan Ranger and Alex Sterin, and redshirt freshman Marcus Schoeman.
Freshmen Denys Forgaci, Reiya Hattori, David Lindsay, and Shri Murugesan joined the squad this Fall, each playing in four fall tournaments.
EYEING THE OWLS
Temple enters Happy Valley with a 1-0 record after its 5-2 win at St. Joseph’s, an opponent Penn State will host at home on Saturday Feb. 8. Historically, the Nittany Lions lead the Owls 16-5, with the last matchup resulting in a 4-3 win at home for Penn State in 2024.
PREVIEWING FORDHAM
The Rams currently hold a 0-1 record after a loss on the road to Brown. Fordham holds a young roster with four freshmen and two sophomores on their squad. This matchup will be the first time these two teams meet each other.
LOOKING AT QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats will open their spring season with this matchup. Quinnipiac finished the 2023-24 season with a 14-11 record. This will be the first meeting of these two teams.
SCOUTING THE BISONS
Bucknell looks to face Saint Francis at home on Saturday, Jan 25 before facing the Nittany Lions on the road. The Blue and White lead the Bisons with a 69-17-2 overall record. Despite matching up at multiple fall tournaments already this season, the two teams are yet to have a regular season dual since 2020, in which Penn State swept the Bisons, 7-0.

Following the back-to-back doubleheader home matches this weekend, the Nittany Lions will hit the road early this season to face Yale on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m. and Buffalo on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will be hosted in New Haven, Conn.
