Four Penn Staters represented on both franchises in the Super Bowl

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Following the Conference Championship round of the NFL playoffs, Penn State has four former players who are a part of both franchises in Super Bowl LIX. The Nittany Lions annually rank among the top 20 programs nationally in producing players in the NFL.

Playoff teams remaining with Nittany Lions featured are as follows: Chiefs (OL Hunter Nourzad), Eagles (RB Saquon Barkley, CB Tariq Castro-Fields*, WR Jahan Dotson). Practice squad players designated with an asterisk.

NFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

In the Conference Championship games, another dominant performance from Saquon Barkley helped the Philadelphia Eagles reach the Super Bowl in his first season with the team. Barkley scored three touchdowns as the Eagles put up 55 points on Washington to advance to the Super Bowl to take on the Chiefs for the second time in the last three seasons.

Here’s how these former Nittany Lion greats fared in last week’s NFL Conference Championship games.

Saquon Barkley (2015-17) RB, Philadelphia Eagles

  • Recorded 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown on Philadelphia’s first offensive play from scrimmage.
  • Caught one pass for four yards.
  • During the regular season, led the NFL in rushing yards (2,005), rushing yards per game (125.3), was second in yards per carry (5.8, minimum 150 carries), and finished eighth in the league in rushing touchdowns with 13.
