Junior blasted four homers in weekend sweep at Longwood

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball junior outfielder Paxton Kling was selected National Player of the Week by Perfect Game on Tuesday. Kling led the Nittany Lions to a three-game sweep at Longwood.

 

Kling batted 7-of-13 (.538) at the plate with four homers, a double, six RBI and seven runs, while adding two hit-by-pitches and two steals. He notched a 1.538 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.

 

The Roaring Spring, Pa. native helped Penn State to 11-1 and 10-0 wins on Saturday and a 15-7 victory on Sunday.

 

Kling led PSU to its first non-conference road sweep since 2018 at Elon.

 

The Nittany Lions’ 36 runs in the series were their most in a three-game series since 39 against Michigan State in 2021.

 

Penn State posted 10+ runs in each game of a three-game series for the first time since May 8-9, 2022 vs. Michigan State.

 

Kling launched two homers, including a three-run blast, in Saturday’s first game. It was his first career two-homer game.

 

He added a solo homer, a double and two runs in Saturday’s second game.

 

Kling led off Sunday’s contest with a solo homer. He added two hits and two steals, while scoring three runs.

 

On the season, Kling is batting .440 (11-of-25) with a double, five homers, nine RBI and nine runs.

 

Kling ranks second in the nation with five homers, tied for the Big Ten lead, 12th in total bases (27), 16th in slugging percentage (1.080) and 24th in OPS (1.613).

 

The Nittany Lions return to the state of Virginia for three games next weekend, beginning on Friday against Richmond at 1:30 p.m. Penn State takes on VCU on Saturday at 2 p.m. and William & Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
