UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (6-1) defeated Mount St. Mary’s (1-3), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon. The team is off to its best seven-match start since a 7-0 start in 2012-13.
Sophomore Jordina Cegarra and freshman Patricia Grigoras, playing on doubles court one, earned the first win of the contest for the Nittany Lions. They defeated Bella Pescatore and Venus Tang 6-1. Senior Yvonne Zuffova paired with freshman Jelena Vico to clinch the doubles point. The tandem beat Amari O’Brien and Margherita Trolese for a 6-2 win on court two.
Junior Olivia Dorner dominated on singles court one with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Trolese. Grigoras made quick work of Venus Tang on court two. She grabbed a 6-2, 6-1 win. Vico secured the win for the Nittany Lions with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kajaal Ramisetty.
Zuffova’s singles match was unfinished in the second set with her leading 6-1, 4-2. Cegarra had her singles match stopped in the first game while sophomore Kate Zink’s match did not begin before Penn State earned the victory.
The Nittany Lions are off until a trip to Las Vegas to play Colorado on Feb. 22 and UNLV on Feb. 23.
