Klosowicz Lands PSU’s First B1G Weekly Accolade of 2025

Second-year breakout star recognized as league’s premier player after hitting .750 at home last week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State softball sophomore designated player Brooke Klosowicz secured PSU’s first Big Ten Conference weekly accolade of the 2025 season in the league’s weekly release on Monday afternoon.

The Johnsburg, Illinois, native continued her absolute tear through the Nittany Lions' competition this weekend at the Penn State Softball Invitational, hitting 9-for-12, scoring nine runs and amassing six extra-base hits comprised of three doubles and three home runs over the home-opening tournament. Klosowicz mustered an earth-shattering weekend-long OPS of 2.536, one of the most dominant single-weekend measures in the category in Penn State history. For the season, Klosowicz is only one double shy of cracking the Penn State single-season doubles leaderboard before the campaign has reached its midpoint, needing just six more to match and seven to surpass the Nittany Lion record set by Kaitlyn Morrison, Ally Kurland and Danielle Kinley.

Penn State’s star designated player ranks prominently in both the Big Ten Conference and Division I in a variety of traditional and advanced statistics, notably standing tied for the national lead in total doubles with a dozen alongside Oklahoma’s Ella Parker and Arizona’s Kaiah Altmeyer. Klosowicz stands alone atop the Big Ten leaderboard with her 12 doubles and is third nationally in doubles per game with 0.52, simultaneously boasting the eighth-best slugging percentage in all of college softball with a 1.030 mark in the statistic. Klosowicz is third in the Big Ten and ninth in Division I in terms of batting average, hitting at a .522 clip while registering 35 hits, the fifth-most in the B1G and 24th in the nation. Additionally, she stands in fourth place among all collegiate hitters in terms of weighted on-base average (.700) and weighted runs created-plus (286), further underscoring her essential role as the driving force behind PSU’s offensive success in the 2025 season.

Klosowicz becomes the 17th recipient of the Big Ten Player of the Week award in Penn State program history, becoming just the fourth Nittany Lion to earn that recognition since 2015. Klosowicz joins a trio of former Nittany Lions in 2022 recipient Ally Kurland, 2023 recipient Lexie Black and 2024 honoree Kaitlyn Morrison as the PSU student-athletes to earn B1G Player of the Week status under the direction of fifth-year head coach Clarisa Crowell. Klosowicz becomes PSU’s first B1G Weekly Award winner in 2025 and is the first recipient of a Big Ten Conference weekly accolade of any kind in Happy Valley since then-freshman pitcher Bridget Nemeth was recognized as the league’s Freshman of the Week on April 8 of last season.

The second-year Nittany Lion standout was instrumental in Penn State’s success over last weekend’s home tournament action, with the team ultimately finishing the weekend batting to the tune of a .534 average with an astronomical 15 home runs and 31 total extra-base hits. The Blue & White are on a roll through their last nine games, winning seven of nine contests to improve to 12-11 overall. The Nittany Lions will enter Big Ten Conference competition next weekend on their longest winning streak of the season, starting the conference portion of the season above .500 for the fourth consecutive campaign.

Penn State softball kicks off its 34th season as a Big Ten Conference member institution this weekend, Thursday through Sunday, March 13 through 16, as the Blue & White prepare to take part in B1G Softball x Devon Park from the host site of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. PSU opens league play with a two-game series against the defending Big Ten Conference regular season champion Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday and Friday night, with both games slated for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) start. PSU will then challenge the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a two-game series on Saturday and Sunday, with contests slated for 5:30 p.m. (ET) and 1:30 p.m. (ET), respectively. All four contests will stream live to a worldwide audience of authenticated subscribers via B1G+ and the B1G+ app.
