UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – An in-state battle between two of the nation’s top women’s volleyball teams will take place at Rec Hall on Wednesday, April 9, as Penn State hosts Pitt at 7 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
The spring matchup features the reigning national champion Nittany Lions against the Panthers, who have played in three straight National Semifinals. Both teams were at the 2024 NCAA Championship event at the KFC Yum! Center, which Penn State went on to win the title with victories over Nebraska and Louisville.
Penn State returns setter Izzy Starck, the AVCA National Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-American, libero Gillian Grimes, a second-team All-Big Ten honoree, and right side Caroline Jurevicius, a Big Ten All-Freshman Team recipient.
Pitt welcomes back right side Olivia Babcock, the AVCA National Player of the Year.
Penn State went 35-2 last season on its way to the eighth national title in program history. Head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley became the first female head coach to lead an NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball team to a national championship.
