UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 4, 2025 –. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams move onto the post season as they travel to Drew University on Saturday, March 9 for NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals. The Nittany Lions will face fencers from Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Duke, North Carolina, Drew, Steven's (M), Temple (W), NJIT, Haverford and Lafayette. Coach Matteo Zennaro will send 12 women’s fencers (four per weapon) and 12 men’s fencers to Drew to battle it out for regional titles and strengthen their chances at qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Competing for the Nittany Lion women will be Eden De La Cruz, Thea Fernandes, Ariel Rastep and Nicole Capodicasa in foil; Ola Strzalkowski, Aurora Colter, Emma Holmes and Eunyu Kim in saber; and Catherine Kim, Kateryna Chorniy, Allegra Cristofoletto, and Sophia Abashidze in epee.
The Nittany Lion men will send Arwen Borowiak, Tit Nam Cheng, Spencer Burke, and Caiden Cannon
to compete in foil; Neil Lilov, Kamar Skeete, Nicholaus Zielinski and Carlos Fernando Chacon in saber; and Mohamed Yasseen, Sultan Hassan, Zachary Suico, and Tingwei Xu in epee.
The Nittany Lions will now prepare for the Mid-Atlantic South Regionals on Saturday, March 8. Penn State will host the NCAA Fencing Championships on Thursday through Sunday, March 20-23, in Penn State’s Multi-Sport Building.
