UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State baseball pitcher Justin Hagenman made his Major League Baseball debut on Wednesday for the New York Mets against the Minnesota Twins.
Hagenman entered the game in the second inning and went 3.1 innings. He allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out four. He recorded two strikeouts in his first inning, including a punch out against the first batter he faced.
He is the 24th Penn State player to appear in a MLB game and the first since Nate Bump in 2005.

Hagenman was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
His professional baseball journey includes stops with the Ogden Raptors (2018), Great Lakes Loons (2018-19), Tulsa Drillers (2021-22), Oklahoma City Dodgers (2022-23), Worchester Red Sox (2023-24) and Syracuse Mets (2025).
Hagenman was traded from the Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox in July 2023 and signed with the Mets on November 18, 2024.
In his minor league career, Hagenman is 32-16 with 22 saves and a 3.95 ERA in 203 appearances (27 starts). He has pitched in 419.1 innings and collected 433 strikeouts.
Hagenman was a three-year starter at Penn State from 2016-18, posting a 4.64 ERA, 10 wins and 190 strikeouts.
He is fourth all-time at Penn State with 42 career starts.
In 2016, Hagenman was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and was tabbed to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after going 6-3 with a 3.84 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
As a sophomore, Hagenman posted 75 strikeouts in 80.1 innings.
In 2018, he led the rotation with a 4.60 ERA and 76 strikeouts in a team-best 78.1 innings.
The Nittany Lions host Purdue for a three-game Big Ten series this weekend. The series begins on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday’s series finale starts at 1 p.m.
Saturday is Ice Cream Day as the Penn State Berkey Creamery will be serving Grand Slam Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, the flavor Penn State Baseball is sponsoring throughout April.
Saturday will also feature postgame autographs and a trading card set giveaway and Sunday will include postgame kids run the bases.
All home games are free admission for all ages.
All games will be broadcast on B1G+.
Penn State, led by head coach Mike Gambino, is 22-13 this season, including a 10-8 record in Big Ten play.
