UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s basketball head coach Mike Rhoades has announced the addition of Cincinnati transfer Josh Reed to the Nittany Lion program. Reed joins Penn State with one season of eligibility remaining.

Reed saw action in 97 games through his first three collegiate seasons at Cincinnati. He is coming off a junior season in which he started nine of the final 10 games of the season, finishing the year averaging 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 85.3 percent from the free throw line. One of the top defenders for the Bearcats, Reed also scored in double figures six times throughout his junior season with all six double-digit scoring performances coming in the final two months of the season. He scored a career-best 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field vs. Oklahoma St. on March 11.
Reed’s sophomore season saw him play in 35 of Cincinnati’s 37 games, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high six points against Evansville and Oklahoma State. Reed saw action in 29 of 36 games during his freshman season, shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and earned Academic All-AAC plaudits.
Reed was a Rivals top 150 recruit out of high school at Pace Academy where he was a two-time state champion, a first-team All-State honoree and a three-time All-Region selection. He averaged 17 points per game during his junior season and 20 points per game on the AAU circuit with AC Georgia.
