Leen and Uchijima Named April MAC Student-Athletes of the Month

Caiden Leen of men’s track and field and Maiko Uchijima of women’s tennis earned recognition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Juniors Caiden Leed of men’s track and field and Maiko Uchijima of women’s tennis have each been recognized as the April Student-Athletes of the Month, as announced by the Morgan Academic Center (MAC) and PSU’s academic services staff.

Leen, a Downingtown, Pennsylvania, native, is enrolled in the division of undergraduate studies and has posted a 3.33 GPA in both the summer and fall semester and is on track to make the Dean’s List this spring. This past fall, Leen competed with the Nittany Lions at the 2025 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals and finished as one of seven top Nittany Lions in the race, helping the men’s team to a fifth-place finish. In his most recent race, he finished the 2025 indoor regular season out with an event win in the mile with a new PR of 4:07.37 at the Penn State Tune-Up.

Uchijima, a Tokyo, Japan, native, is a biobehavioral health major with a 3.43 GPA who transferred to PSU in the before the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year. Since arriving in Happy Valley, the junior owns an 8-5 record in singles and a 19-2 doubles record. Her efforts this season have Penn State women’s tennis ranked No. 42 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings after the team upset No. 14 Southern California for the programs highest-ranked win in over 20 years.

The MAC Student-Athletes of the Month (SAOTM) are students who exemplify the PSU values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Discovery, and Community as well as the Athletics values of Tradition, Teamwork, Diversity, Innovation, and Resilience. At least one female and one male student-athlete will be selected each month, and those students must be in good academic standing, demonstrate strong accountability, and be an example of the leadership on campus and in their community. They are nominated and selected by the Penn State academic services staff.
