UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Florence Caron’s first-place finish led the way as the 15th-ranked Penn State women’s cross country team earned the team win and the Nittany Lion men finished second at the Spiked Shoe Invitational Friday morning at the Penn State Blue & White Courses.
WOMEN’S 6K
Six Nittany Lions finished in the top 10 as the Penn State women’s team ran away with the team title in the women’s 6K race. Reigning All-American Florence Caron crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 19:54.7, a full 24 seconds faster than the second-place runner.
Claire Zubey (3rd; 20:37.3), Ada Rand (4th; 20:42.3), Claire Daniels (5th; 20:44.8) and Charlotte Costich (6th; 20:46.3) formed a strong pack to finish third through sixth, respectively, while Lea Hatcher (9th; 20:54.0) rounded out the Nittany Lions in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish. Katie Dallas (11th; 20:57.6) finished just outside the top 10 to round out the stellar Penn State showing.
Penn State ran away with the team race, finishing with 19 points, while Syracuse (2nd; 50 points), Pittsburgh (3rd; 108 points), Maryland (4th; 109 points) and Buffalo (5th; 160 points) rounded out the top five.

MEN’S 5.2-MILE RACE
Three Nittany Lions finished in the top 20 to propel the men’s team to a second-place finish. Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week Isaac Oppermann led the Penn State men across the finish line with a time of 25:27.3 that was good for 14th place in his first collegiate home meet. Nick Sloff (18th; 25.28.4) and Jaxon Schoedel (20th; 25.29.9) followed closely behind to take home spots in the top 20.
Justin Healey (23rd; 25:33.6), Adam Kingston (24th; 25:41.7), Brendan Flynn (27th; 25:45.5) and Ryan Watson (29th; 25:49.2) all finished within the top 30 to round out Penn State’s strong showing.
Syracuse took home the men’s team title with 15 points, while Penn State (2nd, 62 points), Pittsburgh (3rd, 97 points), St. Joseph’s (4th, 104 points) and American (5th, 144 points) rounded out the top five.
