ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

  • The Canadian Collegiate Invitational will be conducted by Golf Canada and co-hosted by Penn State and Kent State who are both led by Canadian head coaches in Penn State’s Mark Leon and Kent State's Jon Mills.
  • The tournament field features NCAA Division I men's golf teams with prominent Canadian ties in Kent State (co-host), Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Penn State (co-host), Rutgers, George Mason, and UNC Wilmington along with the University of British Columbia.
  • Öviinbyrd Golf Club is one of Canada's premier golf courses, designed by Thomas McBroom and opened in 2004 in Muskoka, Ont. The 7,118-yard layout is set amongst the forests and exposed granite of the Canadian shield in Ontario's famous cottage country and will create a challenging and memorable experience for the players. Öviinbyrd's recently renovated practice facility features world class training conditions and state-of-the-art technology and will benefit players participating in both the NCAA event and the Team Canada – NextGen selection camp.
  • Last year’s event provided a memorable finish with University of Notre Dame winning the team competition and University of Michigan’s Hunter Thomson winning the individual title and an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State is led by junior Alex Creamean who finished second on the team a season ago with a 73.14 stroke average and a pair of top-10 finishes including a 3-under, 137, to finish tied for fourth at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island in March.
  • Creamean will be joined in the starting five by senior Andres Barraza and fellow juniors Tim Peters and Zach Smith while freshman Jackson Saroney rounds out the group with freshman Nick Werner competing as an individual.
  • Smith returns to his home province of Ontario for a second-straight year slotting into the lineup this season after competing in the inaugural Canadian Intercollegiate as an individual last fall finishing the week tied for 27th at 3-over, 219.
  • Creamean finished last year’s event tied for 14th at 2-under, 214, while the Nittany Lions as a team came in sixth at even par, 864.
